Governor Abbott Attends Grand Opening Of Buc-ee’s In San Marcos

Governor Greg Abbott today delivered remarks and presented a proclamation at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Texas’ newest Buc-ee’s store in San Marcos.

“The Texas dream is the result of generations who came before us—the businesses they built, the communities they created, and the legacies they left behind,” said Governor Abbott. “Buc-ee’s is a beacon of Texas hospitality. The grand opening of Buc-ee’s in San Marcos marks an extraordinary day in the company’s history, and I congratulate them on this tremendous success.”

During his remarks, Governor Abbott highlighted Buc-ee’s contributions to the Texas economy. He noted the San Marcos location will create more than 170 new jobs and that the company ranks among the top five U.S. retailers for entry-level salaries.

Governor Abbott presented a proclamation celebrating the Texas icon to Buc-ee’s Founder & President Arch “Beaver” Aplin, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and joined Buc-ee’s employees in their “Brisket on the Board” tradition, slicing and serving brisket to Buc-ee’s customers.

The Governor was also joined by San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson, Senator Judith Zaffirini, San Marcos Director of Economic & Local Business Development Helen Ramirez, and other state and local officials.

Since 1982, Buc-ee’s has been a beacon of Texas hospitality for travelers across the state. With the opening of its 74,000-square-foot San Marcos location, Buc-ee’s now operates nearly 60 stores nationwide.
