Whatcom County Inland Weather

Dry weather is expected through the daytime hours on Monday, with winds remaining relatively modest alongside temperatures topping out in the mid to upper 60s. We will then be greeted by our next disturbance Monday night, with showers developing during the late evening/early overnight hours and continuing off and on through the night. Could then expect rain to become steadier at times in the morning and into the afternoon hours before tapering off between 1-3 pm (5-6 pm out east), with the foothill routes picking up the highest rainfall totals. Will also be anticipating blustery southerly winds to develop Monday evening, with gusts up to 30-35 mph expected through the overnight hours and into Tuesday morning before winds begin to decrease in the late morning hours. A peak gust of 40 mph may be possible as well, particularly for routes closer to Bellingham Bay.

A stray light shower or two could be lingering Tuesday evening before fully dry conditions are expected overnight. Current model guidance then has the region as dry through the remainder of the work week and through the weekend, although this could be subject to change. Expect temperatures to trend a bit warmer compared to Tuesday, with highs around the low-mid 60s each day. Not seeing any wind concerns to address through the extended outlook, either.

Coastal Weather

Winds increasing as a strong frontal system approaches the area waters today. As the front moves through tonight into Tuesday, expect wind speeds to meet headline criteria over all waters. Weak high pressure and offshore flow will follow on Wednesday through the end of the week.

For the Strait and Inland Coastal waters of Whatcom County today we will have south winds at 5-10 knots. Wind waves around 2 feet or less. Moving into the evening, winds will be from the southeast at 20-30 knots. Gusts up to 35 knots after midnight. Wind waves 3-4 feet. A chance of rain in the evening, then rain after midnight. Tomorrow winds will be from the southeast at 20-30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, becoming south at 15-20 knots in the afternoon. Wind waves 3-4 feet. Rain.
